Synopsis
The Infernal Battalion, the concluding volume of The Shadow Campaigns, brings Marcus, Winter, and Janus together to confront the escalating supernatural threat unleashed in the previous book, a danger that now endangers Vordan and the wider world beyond the human conflicts that opened the series. Winter's own connection to old and dangerous magic, developed over the course of the earlier novels, becomes central to any hope of containing the threat, placing new strain on her already complicated position within the army. At the same time, the political order in Vordan remains unsettled, with Janus's controversial role in the kingdom's recent upheavals still an open question even as the military crisis demands unified action. The novel follows the three officers as they work to reconcile the immediate military emergency with the deeper political and personal reckonings left unresolved from earlier in the series.
