Synopsis
The Inheritance & Other Stories is a 2011 collection gathering short fiction by Robin Hobb, mixing several tales set in the Realm of the Elderlings with stories from entirely different settings. Alongside the title story, which follows a Bingtown family and an inherited wizardwood pendant, the volume includes other pieces ranging across very different territory, from stories touching on vampires and traveling musicians to tales of drifters and stray cats, reflecting Hobb's range outside her long-running fantasy series. For readers of the Elderlings books, the collection offers a chance to revisit familiar settings like Bingtown in shorter form, while the non-Elderlings stories show a different side of Hobb's writing. It functions less as a single continuous narrative than as a sampler of her shorter work assembled across a career built primarily on multi-volume epics.
