Synopsis
Set before the events of the original Black Jewels trilogy, this standalone novel follows Jared, a Red-Jeweled Warlord who has spent nine years as a pleasure slave forced to wear the Ring of Obedience. After killing the man who enslaved him and fleeing, he is captured again and sold once more, this time to a mysterious queen whose previous slaves have all vanished without explanation, leaving him to expect death at her hands. As Jared is drawn into her household, he begins to suspect the Gray Lady is not the monster her reputation suggests, and he is forced to weigh the freedom he has fought so hard for against a fragile sense of honor and trust he never expected to feel again in captivity.
