Synopsis
The Jargoon Pard follows Kethan of the House of Car Do Prawn in the land of Arvon, a young man born under strange circumstances at Gunnora's shrine. On his fifteenth birthday he receives a golden belt clasped with a jargoon stone from a trader named Ibycus, and soon discovers that under the full moon it forces him into the shape of a great cat, a pard. Driven from his home by the transformation, Kethan flees into the wilderness, where he falls in with Herrel, a shape-shifting Wererider, the Wise Woman Gillan, and their daughter Aylinn. They reveal that his true heritage carries Were-blood and that his shifting can be mastered through discipline rather than feared. Meanwhile Ursilla, the Keep's own Wise Woman, has her own designs on the belt and on an ancient underground chamber tied to old, elemental forces.

Notes
- From the series record (Witch World: High Hallack Cycle): A separate High Hallack sub-continuity within the wider Witch World setting, solely written by Andre Norton (Core Canon, the Estcarp Cycle, is unaffected). 2 later titles co-written by other hands (Songsmith 1992 w/ A.C. Crispin, Silver May Tarnish 2005 w/ Lyn McConchie) are deliberately excluded per this project's credited-authorship bright line (Darkover/Pern precedent); The Gates to Witch World (1994) is an omnibus of already-counted novels, not new content.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
