Synopsis
In Pine Cove, California, the town psychiatrist Val Riordan, in a fit of guilt, secretly replaces her patients' antidepressants with placebos. At the same time, environmental disruption wakes a prehistoric sea creature that comes ashore. The gloomy town turns lustful and the local blues bar does well, while the creature releases a pheromone that lures people in as prey. Molly Michon, a former B-movie star, befriends the creature and names it Steve. Constable Theo Crowe investigates a suspicious death and his corrupt boss, and must resist his own urges as a crime wave grows.
