Synopsis
Set in the colonial cities of Fatrasta amid rising tension between immigrant settlers and the native population, young military commander Ben Styke oversees a frontier garrison. When the governor's cruel brother arrives to stay the night, simmering continental tensions begin to boil over, forcing Styke to weigh his duty to keep order against his loyalty to the townspeople he protects. The novella is set twelve years before the events of Sins of Empire.
