Synopsis

The Mark of Athena is the third book in The Heroes of Olympus series. A Greek warship from Camp Half-Blood sails to the Roman stronghold of Camp Jupiter so that seven demigods, prophesied to unite in a shared quest, can finally join forces despite centuries of mutual Greek-Roman distrust. Once united, the group sets out for Rome, following clues that Annabeth Chase alone can interpret, drawn from a trail her mother Athena left behind concerning the long-lost statue of the Athena Parthenos. As old tensions between the Greek and Roman demigods simmer just beneath the surface of their fragile alliance, the group must navigate ancient dangers scattered across Rome and beyond, aware that recovering the statue may be the key to averting a larger catastrophe tied to the stirring earth goddess Gaea.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
