Synopsis

The Son of Neptune is the second book in The Heroes of Olympus series. Percy Jackson wakes near a camp of Roman demigods with no memory of his past beyond his own name, unaware that months have passed since he vanished from Camp Half-Blood and that he is, in fact, a son of Neptune, the Roman aspect of his father Poseidon. Struggling to prove himself among suspicious strangers who follow unfamiliar customs, Percy forms an uneasy alliance with two fellow demigods, Hazel Levesque and Frank Zhang, each carrying their own burdens and secrets. Together the three are sent on a dangerous quest north to Alaska, tasked with confronting servants of the awakening earth goddess Gaea before her plans can advance further, while Percy tries to reconcile fragments of his forgotten life with the unfamiliar Roman world he now finds himself part of.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
