Synopsis
The first Moomin story, written in 1945 under the shadow of the war, is the tale of how the Moomins came to Moominvalley. Moominmamma and young Moomintroll are searching through the great forest for Moominpappa, who went off with the Hattifatteners and never came back; on the way they meet a small, shy creature, an early Sniff, and the elegantly strange Tulippa, a girl with blue hair. A rainstorm that lasts for days brings a flood, Moominmamma rescues a family of cats, and mother and child sail across the drowned landscape on an armchair until a message in a bottle tells them that Moominpappa has escaped the flood up a tree. Reunited, the family travels on until they find the house Moominpappa built, carried by the flood into a small valley, and decide to stay. A short illustrated prelude to the series proper, first published in English in 2005.
