Synopsis
Opening the Rooks and Ruin series in the same world as the Swords and Fire trilogy, this novel introduces Ryxander, Warden of Gloamingard Castle, who has spent her life guarding a black tower sealed by magic and holding within it a dangerous secret contained for thousands of years. Raised on the warning passed down through generations of her family, that nothing must ever unseal the Door hidden inside the tower, Ryx has built her entire sense of duty around keeping that promise. When one impetuous choice on her part breaks the seal she was sworn to protect, Ryx finds herself with blood on her hands and a catastrophic threat unleashed that could plunge an entire continent into darkness, forcing her to grapple with the consequences of her failure and the scale of what she has set loose.
