Synopsis
Picking up after Ryxander's failure to keep the Door at Gloamingard sealed, this second Rooks and Ruin novel opens with demons walking the world for the first time since the age of the Graces, a return that throws the surrounding nations into alarm and suspicion. As tensions rise, attention and hostility increasingly focus on the region of Morgrain, which has fallen under the influence of a Demon of Discord, straining relations between the empire and the Witch Lords who rule the neighboring domains. When an artifact capable of wiping out all life across an entire domain is stolen, Ryx, the Warden of Gloamingard, commits herself to recovering it and protecting her home from destruction, even as the effort threatens to demand a far greater personal sacrifice from her than she anticipated.
