Synopsis
The Other Lands, published by David Anthony Durham in 2009, continues the Acacia trilogy some years after the defeat of the Mein. The surviving Akaran siblings have settled into new roles: Corinn rules the Known World from the throne while pursuing the study of dangerous sorcery, Mena continues fighting monstrous threats tied to the world's old magic, and Dariel works to help rebuild an empire still recovering from war. When the League brings troubling news of upheaval in the Other Lands, the distant territory across the sea, Corinn sends Dariel as her emissary to investigate, and he arrives to find a tangle of old grudges, treachery, and unfamiliar customs, along with enslaved people connected to Acacia's own troubled past. Dariel's presence there sets off consequences that threaten to draw the Known World into a far larger conflict than the one it has only recently survived.
