Synopsis
The Rose and the Dagger picks up immediately after The Wrath and the Dawn, following Shahrzad, now Calipha of Khorasan, after she is separated from her husband and reunited with her family and her childhood sweetheart Tariq in the desert. While Khalid remains behind to govern his war-scarred city alone, Shahrzad works with her father, a powerful magician, and with old and new allies to understand and ultimately break the curse that has forced Khalid to kill his brides each dawn. Her journey brings her into contact with rival kingdoms, uneasy alliances, and figures from Khalid's past whose loyalties are far from certain, while her younger sister Irsa steps into a larger role than before.
