Synopsis

The Wrath and the Dawn opens a two-book reimagining of One Thousand and One Nights set in the fictional caliphate of Khorasan. Sixteen-year-old Shahrzad volunteers to become the newest bride of the young caliph Khalid Ibn al-Rashid, fully aware that he has taken a new wife each night for the past year and had every one of them executed by dawn. Her decision is deliberate: she intends to survive where the others did not and to avenge the death of her closest friend, one of Khalid's earlier victims, by uncovering the truth behind his murders and ultimately destroying him. Once inside the palace, Shahrzad uses her skill as a storyteller to keep herself alive night after night, buying time to investigate the secrets surrounding Khalid's reign.
