Synopsis

The Silent Blade, the first book of the Paths of Darkness series, weaves together several storylines following the events of Passage to Dawn. In the port city of Luskan, Wulfgar struggles to rebuild his life after his ordeal in the demonic Abyss, wrestling with trauma as he takes refuge in a tavern. Artemis Entreri returns to his old thieves' guild in Calimport to find it transformed in his absence. Most urgently, Drizzt Do'Urden and his companions, together with the priest Cadderly, set out to destroy Crenshinibon, the sentient crystal shard whose corrupting influence has caused so much harm, only to be outmaneuvered by the drow mercenary Jarlaxle and his agents, who impersonate Cadderly to seize the artifact for themselves. Meanwhile a mysterious giant, drawn by the shard's call, stalks Regis and the magical ruby he still carries, drawing every thread toward the dangerous artifact.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
