Synopsis
The Spine of the World, the second book of the Paths of Darkness series, follows Wulfgar after the events of The Silent Blade, as he drifts through Luskan in the company of Morik the Rogue, an unscrupulous but companionable thief. Framed for the attempted murder of his old friend Captain Deudermont, a crime neither of them committed, Wulfgar and Morik narrowly escape execution through unexpected intervention, only to find that Wulfgar's enchanted warhammer, Aegis-fang, has already been stolen and sold off to a pirate. Ill-suited to the life of highway robbers they briefly attempt, the pair instead drift into the affairs of a remote frontier settlement, where local politics and a nobleman's hidden illegitimate child complicate Wulfgar's uneasy attempt to claw his way back from grief and disgrace toward something resembling redemption.
