Synopsis
The Silmarillion is a collection of mythopoeic works by J. R. R. Tolkien, edited and published posthumously by his son Christopher Tolkien in 1977. It recounts the creation and early ages of Tolkien's fictional universe, Ea, covering the history of the Valar, the region of Beleriand, the island of Numenor, and the events that shaped Middle-earth long before the time of The Lord of the Rings.
