Synopsis

The Skein of Lament, the second novel in Chris Wooding's Braided Path trilogy, widens the scope of the conflict introduced in The Weavers of Saramyr and begins answering some of the questions that novel raised about the true nature and origins of the Weavers' power. The action spreads beyond the empire's northwest and off the Saramyr continent entirely, introducing new characters and settings as the stakes of the unfolding struggle grow significantly larger than the first book suggested. As the story's scope expands, readers begin to see glimpses of what the Braided Path sequence is truly building toward, a picture considerably different from what the opening volume implied, as multiple intersecting plotlines develop around the Empress's daughter and the Weavers who still hunt children like her.
