Synopsis

The Spirit War (2012) is the fourth novel in Rachel Aaron's The Legend of Eli Monpress series. Eli Monpress, a vain and self-assured thief who never meant to acquire obligations or friends, finds himself drawn into a dangerous conflict between the Immortal Empress and the Council of Thrones. When his companion Josef is called home to claim his princely title, Eli agrees to accompany him, a decision that quickly escalates into a life-threatening situation. The Empress, who holds a personal grudge against Eli, rules the very island where Josef's homeland lies, placing it at the center of a looming war between humans and spirits. Unable to abandon his friend and caught between multiple hostile forces, Eli must rely on his wits and cunning to survive what becomes one of the most dangerous jobs of his career.
