Synopsis
John Gregory decides that Tom Ward should learn from another spook for a while, and sends him to train under Bill Arkwright. Arkwright is a harsh teacher whose methods are very different from Gregory's, and he expects Tom to cope with whatever he is given. Their work takes them to a hostile part of the County where a powerful water witch, Morwena, has made her home. When Arkwright faces her he makes a serious error, and Tom is left to cope with their enemies on his own. Gregory must reach his apprentice in time, or the dark may take more than one life.
