Synopsis
With the Council overthrown and the Misfits accepted, at least in law, Elspeth Gordie can at last turn to her secret task, but the rebels' victory has left the Land unsettled and the Herder Faction still powerful on the west coast. Her quest to find and destroy the Beforetime weaponmachines leads her to need the stone key that will open the way, and to a perilous journey across the sea to the Herder Isle, stronghold of the Faction and of the man she has come to fear most, Ariel, who has his own designs on the Beforetime's legacy. Published in Australia as one volume and split in North America and the UK into Wavesong and The Stone Key, the fifth novel was shortlisted for the Aurealis Award for young-adult fiction.
