Synopsis

The Storm Lord opens in the kingdom of Dorthar amid a succession crisis: the ruler known as the Storm Lord has fathered a child, Raldnor, with a Lowlander priestess shortly before his own death, making the infant the legal heir under Dortharian law, much to the fury of the ambitious Queen Val Mara, who intended the throne for her own son Amrek. When Raldnor's mother also dies, the child is smuggled far from the capital to escape the queen's murderous designs, and is raised among the Plains people with no knowledge of his royal blood, growing up feeling always subtly apart from those around him. Meanwhile, Amrek claims the throne his mother maneuvered him onto. As an adult, Raldnor is drawn into political sabotage, threats on his life and the machinations of the usurper's court as he moves, still largely unaware of his own origins, toward reclaiming the birthright that was stolen from him at birth.
