Overview
Wars of Vis is a sword-and-planet fantasy trilogy by Tanith Lee, comprising The Storm Lord (1976), Anackire (1983), and The White Serpent (1988), set on the world of Vis across a span of decades. It follows the rise of Raldnor, a golden-eyed man of mixed and uncertain parentage whose birth fulfills a regional prophecy, and the wars, usurpations, and religious upheavals that follow as he moves from exile to claimant of an empire that despises his blood. Later volumes shift focus to his descendants, tracing how the prophecy's fulfillment reshapes Vis's warring peoples and their rival goddess-cults over succeeding generations. The trilogy is notable for treating its central prophecy less as unambiguous destiny than as a political and religious tool that different factions bend to their own ends. It is a separate universe from Lee's Tales from the Flat Earth sequence, sharing no setting or characters with it.
