Synopsis
The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter is Theodora Goss's 2017 debut novel. After her parents' deaths leave her nearly penniless, Mary Jekyll discovers evidence that her late father, the notorious Dr. Henry Jekyll, may have left behind unexplained financial ties to Edward Hyde, the murderer he was infamously linked to years earlier. Investigating her father's mysterious past in hopes of recovering some of his hidden fortune, Mary enlists the help of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to track down the elusive Hyde. Her search draws her into contact with several other young women, each created or transformed through disturbing scientific experimentation by figures out of classic Gothic fiction, who together begin to uncover a secret society responsible for their shared, unnatural origins.
