Synopsis
An incompetent traveling wizard named Horris Kew, dabbling in powers he does not understand, accidentally unleashes a malevolent entity called the Gorse, whose escape traps King Ben Holiday, the dragon Strabo, and the witch Nightshade together inside a strange magical device known as the Tangle Box, an artifact that scrambles ordinary notions of time, self, and reality for anyone caught within it. While the three unlikely and mutually hostile prisoners search for a way to escape their shared confinement, forced into uneasy cooperation despite years of enmity, Ben's companions back in Landover must confront the mysterious new threat the Gorse represents before it can do further damage to the kingdom in his absence.
