Synopsis

In this fifth Landover novel, King Ben Holiday faces a mysterious usurper who claims to hail from another world entirely, demands Ben's throne as his own, and backs the claim by unleashing dangerous magical creatures against Landover's defenders. At the same time, the witch Nightshade seizes the chance created by the chaos to abduct Ben and Willow's infant daughter Mistaya, intending to corrupt the child's budding magical abilities toward her own ends rather than raise her within the royal court. Compounding the crisis, Questor Thews and Abernathy find themselves stranded on Earth once again, cut off from Landover just when their king needs them most, leaving Ben to face both the usurper's challenge and his daughter's kidnapping with a diminished circle of allies.

Notes

  • From the series record (Magic Kingdom of Landover): Distinct continuity from Terry Brooks's Shannara -- a lawyer buys a fictional magic kingdom advertised for sale and becomes its king.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.
