Synopsis
Geder Palliako's war cannot be stopped; every victory only calls forth another conflict, and he is prepared to kill however many are needed to bring the peace he believes he is owed. Cithrin returns to her bank's fold, her past and her own conscience now greater dangers than the war itself. Elsewhere, a disgraced noblewoman turns loyal traitor, and Captain Marcus Wester chases an ancient secret that could change the war's course.
