Synopsis
Lord Regent Geder Palliako's war and the priests of a strange, spreading faith have brought victory after victory -- except over the one woman he cannot have. As his rule begins to crack, he risks everything to win her love or ruin her utterly. Clara Kalliam, torn between who she was and who the war has made her, has sons fighting on every side. In Porte Oliva, Cithrin and Marcus close in on a truth linking this war to the dragons' fall, millennia before.
