Synopsis

The Unkindest Tide is the thirteenth novel in the October Daye series and a direct sequel to Night and Silence. It opens as the Luidaeg, the ancient and powerful sea witch to whom Toby has long owed a debt, calls that debt due by requiring Toby to help her convene the Selkies to answer for an obligation stretching back centuries, a gathering that takes the group to the legendary Duchy of Ships. Complications mount quickly once they arrive: Duchess Dianda Lorden of Saltmist is threatened with arrest for treason against the Undersea kingdom when her estranged brother turns up, and a Selkie woman is found murdered and skinned, throwing the convocation into turmoil.
