Synopsis
Nine-year-old Tiffany Aching, a shepherd's granddaughter on the chalk downs, realizes she has First Sight, the ability to see things as they truly are, including magical creatures invisible to everyone else. After a chance encounter with a traveling witch named Miss Tick, who recognizes her potential and gives her a toad companion, Tiffany's world is upended when her small brother Wentworth is snatched away by the Queen of the Fairies. Determined to get him back, Tiffany allies herself with the Nac Mac Feegle, a boisterous clan of tiny, blue-skinned, sword-wielding men who speak in a thick dialect and claim descent from her late grandmother's own flock. Armed mostly with practical sense, a frying pan, and the memory of her grandmother's example, Tiffany leads the Feegles into the shifting, dreamlike realm of Fairyland to rescue her brother from the Queen's domain.
