Synopsis
The Well of Ascension begins about a year after the Lord Ruler's fall, as the Final Empire's collapse has plunged much of the land into chaos. In the capital, Luthadel, the newly crowned King Elend Venture attempts to govern through a fledgling council-based government, with Vin, the Mistborn who helped end the old regime, at his side. Their fragile rule is threatened almost immediately as three separate armies converge on the city: one led by Elend's own father, one by a rival claimant to power, and a third made up of monstrous koloss under the command of a former ally turned enemy. As the crew works to hold Luthadel together, Sazed, a Terrisman scholar, digs into records from before the Final Empire's founding, and Vin becomes convinced that an artifact called the Well of Ascension may hold power capable of saving the city.
