Synopsis

The Wolf of Oren-Yaro, published by K.S. Villoso in 2020, opens the Chronicles of the Wolf Queen. Queen Talyien has ruled Jin-Sayeng alone for five years, ever since her husband Rayyel walked out on her at their own coronation, leaving their marriage and the kingdom's fragile unity in doubt. When Rayyel unexpectedly sends word asking her to meet him in the distant foreign city of Anzhao to discuss urgent matters, Talyien sees a chance to finally settle the past and secure her rule. The meeting turns disastrous almost immediately: an assassination attempt against her leaves Talyien stranded, injured, and alone in unfamiliar territory, cut off from her guards and unable to trust anyone around her. Forced to survive in a hostile city while working out who wants her dead, Talyien must rely on instincts honed as a warrior rather than the diplomacy she came to practice.

Notes

  • From the series record (Chronicles of the Wolf Queen): A single continuous trilogy following Queen Talyien of Jin-Sayeng. Publication years follow the trilogy's wide, traditionally-published Orbit edition; the author had earlier self-published the same three novels in 2017-2018 under slightly different titles/text before the Orbit re-edit, a detail noted here rather than silently resolved.

Neighbouring works

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series Chronicles of the Wolf Queen: position 1 of 3: next The Ikessar Falcon (2020)
