Synopsis
Treachery's Tools picks up thirteen years after the events of Madness in Solidar, with Alastar settled into his role as Maitre of the Collegium, now married with a young daughter and hoping to focus his energy on making Imager Isle more self-sufficient. Those plans are disrupted by the growing wealth and influence of Solidar's merchant classes, which has stirred deep resentment among the High Holders, who see their long-held privileges eroding. Bad harvests trigger outbreaks of violence, and the High Holders push to repeal legal codes that underpin the Rex's authority, while a series of deaths among the Collegium's students forces Alastar to investigate even as he tries to keep the Collegium out of the widening political conflict.
