Synopsis
Trickster's Choice opens the Daughter of the Lioness duology, following Alianne "Aly" of Pirate's Swoop, sixteen-year-old daughter of the famous knight Alanna, who dreams of becoming a spy like her parents but is forbidden from the dangerous work. After a furious argument, Aly takes a small boat out alone and is captured by pirates, then sold as a slave in the Copper Isles to an exiled noble family, the Balitangs. There she is approached by Kyprioth, the trickster god of the Copper Isles, who offers her a wager: keep the Balitang children safe through the summer and she can train as a spy, but fail and she will serve him for a year. Settling into the household's mountain exile, Aly discovers the daughters carry raka blood tied to an old prophecy, drawing her into a conspiracy to place a half-raka queen on the throne.
