Synopsis

In the second Circle of Magic novel, the four young mages of Discipline Cottage have settled into their shared life at Winding Circle temple, with Trisana Chandler, known as Tris, continuing to work on controlling her volatile weather magic. Her routine is disrupted when her cousin Aymery unexpectedly arrives at the temple. When Tris discovers that Aymery is secretly involved with a band of pirates threatening the coast, she and her three foster siblings, Sandry, Daja and Briar, are drawn into the growing danger. The pirate fleet is commanded by the sorcerer Enahar and his sister Pauha, whose magic poses a direct threat to Winding Circle and the surrounding towns. Tris must reconcile her family loyalty with the threat her cousin represents, while the four companions rely on their combined magical strengths, still new and only partly understood, to protect their home.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series Circle of Magic: position 2 of 4: previous Sandry's Book (1997) · next Daja's Book (1998)
  • Internal chronology, within Circle of Magic (Emelan): position 2 of 11: previous Sandry's Book (1997) · next Daja's Book (1998)
