Synopsis
The wizards of Unseen University discover that a clause in an old bequest requires them to field a football team or lose a huge share of their endowment, forcing Archchancellor Mustrum Ridcully and Lord Vetinari to work together to turn Ankh-Morpork's chaotic, often fatal street football into a codified, survivable sport with proper rules. As the university scrambles to assemble a team, four young staff members from the university's kitchens and candle vats are drawn into the effort: Trevor Likely, son of a football legend but bound by a promise to his late mother never to play; Glenda Sugarbean, the sharp-tongued head of the night kitchen; Juliet Stollop, her strikingly beautiful but simple coworker; and the enigmatic candle-dribbler Mr Nutt, whose quiet brilliance hides an origin he does not fully understand himself.
