Synopsis
Vazkor, Son of Vazkor, published by Tanith Lee in 1978, is the second novel of the Birthgrave Trilogy. Tuvek is a young man of unusual strength raised among a barbarian tribe by the chief Ettook and his wife Tathra, unaware for years that he is not their natural son. He is, in truth, the child of the amnesiac protagonist of the first novel and the warlord Vazkor, switched at birth and hidden among the tribespeople, and as he grows he proves so far superior to his peers in body and instinct that he is marked as an outsider who cannot even bear the tribe's ritual scars. When Tuvek eventually learns the truth of his parentage and the psychic powers he has inherited, the novel, framed as his own memoir, follows him from tribal life toward the sophisticated ruined city of Eshkorek, once devastated by his father's conquests.
