Synopsis

In this third volume of the Memoirs of Lady Trent, Isabella Camherst sets out on her most ambitious undertaking yet, a two-year voyage aboard the ship Basilisk intended to study a wide range of dragon species scattered across the world, from sea-serpents to feathered dragons to smaller lizard-like varieties. She writes this account partly to set the record straight against the exaggerated versions of the voyage that have circulated since, describing storms, shipwrecks, and visits to ancient ruins along the way. The journey also marks the first expedition Isabella shares with her young son Jake, and brings her into contact with Suhail, a scholar of antiquities whose own interests increasingly intersect with her research into dragons across many distant shores.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Memoirs of Lady Trent): A five-book sequence narrated as the memoirs of a fictional Victorian-analogue naturalist who studies dragons; a companion novel set generations later is treated as a separate spin-off, not part of this Core Canon sequence.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.
