Synopsis

The third volume of The Wars of Light and Shadow continues directly from the rising conflict of the previous book, as the curse-driven feud between the half-brothers Lysaer and Arithon escalates into open war. Lysaer, acting as a statesman and prince, unites disparate factions into a warhost with the singular purpose of capturing Arithon, the Master of Shadow, who is forced onto the defensive. The stakes extend well beyond the brothers themselves, as the forest clans who have sheltered Arithon depend on his survival, the Fellowship of Seven sorcerers seek to reunite their scattered order amid the turmoil, and the Koriani enchantresses regard Arithon as a potential threat to their own ambitions and future influence, each faction maneuvering for advantage as Lysaer's army closes in.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
