Synopsis

Opening the Alliance of Light story arc within The Wars of Light and Shadow, this fourth volume finds Lysaer, self-styled Prince of Light, presenting himself as a charismatic liberator sworn to free humanity from what he calls sorcerous oppression, while his half-brother Arithon, the Master of Shadow, continues to seek nothing more than an end to the killing and a chance to search out Athera's vanished ancient races. The uneasy balance between them is upended when the Koriani enchantresses ally themselves with Lysaer's cause, and their Prime Matriarch sets her sights on capturing Arithon to use as leverage against the Fellowship of Seven sorcerers. As faction is set against faction once more, ideological fervor and old prejudices threaten to destabilize the fragile order that has held Athera's peoples together since the Mistwraith's defeat.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
