Synopsis
Just when Nola O'Grady thinks she has it all, the Agency makes her head of its San Francisco branch, and the city's troubles arrive on her desk: rogue waves that drown innocents on the beaches for no natural reason, a Chaos cult that was supposed to be dead and is not, and the Chaos masters who orchestrated the events of License to Ensorcell, still at large and felt in new ways. Ari Nathan, now her lover as well as her partner, brings a haunted past of his own into the office. Then Nola's brother drags them both into a rescue mission in a radioactive alternate dimension, one of the deviant world-levels Nola's family has a knack for stumbling into, and the fragile balance between Order and Chaos that she is sworn to keep comes under strain from her own blood.
