Synopsis
Web of the Witch World picks up shortly after the first novel, with Simon Tregarth now married to the witch Jaelithe, whose powers, contrary to Estcarp's traditions, have not vanished with her marriage. When Loyse, wife of the Estcarp officer Koris, is abducted by the Duke of Karsten to force through a political marriage, Simon and Jaelithe set out on a rescue mission that draws them back into contact with the Kolder, the technologically advanced invaders introduced in the first novel. As they investigate Loyse's disappearance, they discover the Kolder have refined their methods of covert control and infiltration, hiding their influence behind ordinary political intrigue. Simon's growing entanglement with a strange Kolder artifact complicates the rescue further, pulling him and Jaelithe toward a hidden enemy stronghold whose exposure could determine the future course of the war against Kolder.
