Synopsis
Where the Drowned Girls Go follows Cora Miller, a student at Eleanor West's Home for Wayward Children who, unlike most of her peers, seeks not to return to her lost magical world but to forget it entirely. Believing Eleanor West's school too focused on nurturing the memory of the worlds its students have lost, Cora requests a transfer to a very different institution known as the Whitethorn Institute, located in the Trenches, whose methods are designed to strip away rather than encourage any lingering connection to a student's magical past. The novella follows what Cora finds, and what she gives up, once she leaves the more forgiving environment of Eleanor West's school behind.

Notes
- From the series record (Wayward Children): Core Canon = all 11 published novellas (Tor.com/Tordotcom, 2016-2026), per the collection/short-form-as-Core precedent (this series' primary reading unit has always been the novella, not the novel). Book 12, "A Song of Sugar Sparrows" (planned January 2027), is announced but unpublished as of 2026-08-11 -- isn't counted here yet; watch for its publication.
