Synopsis

The second book of the Mage Winds trilogy continues Elspeth's journey as she trains among the Tayledras, or Hawkbrothers, at their forest Vale, working to master the magical Gift she left Valdemar to develop. Her progress is complicated by the deteriorating situation at home, where the ancient protective barrier that has shielded Valdemar for generations is weakening under pressure from Ancar of Hardorn, a hostile ruler pursuing dark magic of his own. As word reaches the Vale that her adopted community and her homeland both face escalating danger, Elspeth is forced to balance her own unfinished magical education against the urgent need to help defend the people and places she cares about, even before her training is complete.
