Synopsis

In Wings, the concluding volume of the trilogy, three Nomes set out from the quarry on an ambitious scheme to reach the space shuttle launch site in Florida, hoping to use it to signal their people's long-departed starship and secure a way off Earth. Their journey across an unfamiliar landscape brings them into contact with a very different tribe of Nomes living in isolation, whose customs and history complicate the travelers' assumptions about their own kind. As the small group races against time to reach Florida and make contact before their opportunity passes, they must also find a way to reunite with the larger community left behind at the quarry, balancing the pull of a possible return home against loyalty to those who stayed.
