Synopsis

In Diggers, the Nomes who fled their demolished department store home in the previous book have resettled at an abandoned quarry, only to find new turmoil awaiting them there. Within the group, a faction pushes to rebuild the kind of settled, insular life the Nomes led before, while others must contend with humans reopening the quarry for work, threatening to expose or displace the community all over again. As tensions between competing visions for the Nomes' future come to a head, the group is forced into a dramatic escape, repurposing an old digger abandoned at the site to get their people to safety before the human workers' return makes staying impossible.
