Synopsis
Wisdom's Daughter serves as a prequel within the Ayesha series, narrated in Ayesha's own voice as she sets down the story of her life long before her first encounter with Leo Vincey's ancestor Kallikrates. It recounts her origins in ancient Egypt, her rise as a priestess of Isis, and the earlier chapters of the immortal existence that the previous novels had only sketched from the outside through Holly's narration. Framed as Ayesha's own written memories, composed during a period of winter isolation referenced in the earlier Return of She, the novel fills in the background of the rivalry, love and loss that drives her pursuit of Kallikrates' reincarnation across the rest of the series, giving the immortal queen who dominated the earlier books a voice and history of her own.
