Synopsis
In early medieval Scotland, nine-year-old Wise Child is left without family when her grandmother dies and her father vanishes. The villagers send her to Juniper, a healer and practitioner of nature magic who lives apart from the community. Juniper takes her in and teaches her herbs, healing and the basics of magic, and Wise Child slowly comes to trust her. Then Wise Child's mother, the dark witch Maeve, returns and offers her a life of comfort and power. Wise Child has to choose between the two women while discovering powers of her own, as Maeve's actions stir fear in the village and put both her and Juniper in danger.
