Synopsis

Arslan orders the sealing of Mount Demavand, a forbidden mountain, to stop the Serpent King Zahhak from returning to the world. In the capital Ecbatana, the monsters that serve the Serpent King begin to stir. Meanwhile Hirmes, who now leads Turanian warriors, schemes to bring the kingdom of Misr under his own control. The volume moves several plotlines forward at once, among them the supernatural threat gathering around the capital, Hirmes's bid for power abroad, and the journey of Farangis and Alfrid, and it sets up a major upheaval for the realm.
