Overview

The novel won the Locus Award for Best First Novel and was a finalist for the Philip K. Dick Award, and its success contributed to Hopkinson winning the 1999 John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer, establishing her early reputation as a distinctive voice blending Caribbean diaspora culture with speculative fiction.
